Welcome to Wordplay games, a small press games company producing rules light and immersive pen and paper roleplaying games.

Our established and first game is the eponymous ‘Wordplay’. Find out more through the links above. The game has garnered a lot of praise and others are using the engine in their own games. The links to the right give a taste of what is to come. We’re hoping for a busy and full year of Wordplay releases from some very talented people.

Currently in development is Age of Arthur, our Dark Ages roleplaying game of war torn Britannia. This game uses Skein, our adaptation of the Fate roleplaying engine. We’re very excited about this game and hope to have it available in book and PDF format for about September this year.

I would like to know more about this game in regards to how well it could handle splatterpunk, zombie apocalypse,cyberpunk/posthumanism, and even Call of Cthulhu?

I’m looking for one system that does all of the above at a gritty level. How does it do for gritty splatterpunk? I guess what I’m asking is how does damage work in this system? I like the ideas of levels of damage and success, which I understand this game system uses.

And if I wanted to do adventures that are bizarro, such as Carlton Mellick III’s writings or ideas from my own dreams that I remember upon waking in the morning, can it do those as well?

The character creation sample suggests that there are character creation levels, such as heroic, and such. What are the levels, if I may ask?

One reviewer I looked at mentioned that there was a free sampler out on the web or something. But I can’t find it anywhere. Is there a sampler of the game somewhere? And may I have a download of it if there is?

Thank you for your time in answering these questions.

How does the Skein variant of the Fate rules differ from the original fate rules?

Wordplay is a multigenre and highly flexible gaming engine. Go as bizarro as you can describe and you’re away.

There isn’t a free version currently available. Join our Forums to chat some more. :)
